On Wednesday, April 21st St. Gianna Physician’s Guild President, Thomas McKenna, appeared on the Eternal Word Television Network’s “Live” program with Fr. Mitch Pacwa to discuss “Catholic Doctors in the House.” The show focused on the goals and activities of the Guild as well as the virtuous life of their patron, St. Gianna Beretta Molla.

Throughout the one hour program Mr. McKenna shared stories about the life of St. Gianna along with an insight into her spirituality. His personal friendship with St. Gianna’s family has given him the opportunity to learn first hand about the life of this recently canonized saint. He also explained why he chose St. Gianna as the patron of the Guild and how the Guild’s outreach programs are focused on promoting her as a model and example for physicians and other health care professionals to imitate. He showed how interest in the Guild is growing and helping doctors to practice their Faith while practicing medicine.

The last half hour of the show Mr. McKenna answered questions from viewers and the studio audience about the current state of health care in the United States and the challenges facing those in the practice of medicine. Displayed on the set were a pair of gloves and stethoscope belonging to St. Gianna. Before the show Mr. McKenna invited Fr. Pacwa to be an honorary member of the Guild and presented him with a pin which he accepted and pinned on his lapel before the show began.

Earlier in the day Mr. McKenna visited with the sisters at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery founded by Mother Angelica. He had the opportunity to speak with them for more than an hour about St. Gianna and the apostolate of the Guild and to ask for their prayers. They enthusiastically agreed to include the Guild in their prayers and as a symbol of this agreement Mr. McKenna presented the monastery with one of the framed pictures of St. Gianna with a relic that the Guild enshrines in physicians offices and other health care facilities. Mr. McKenna also presented the sisters with a Physician’s Guild member pin to present to Mother Angelica making her an honorary member. They enthusiastically accepted.

As a result of the exposure the Guild received many new members from all parts of the country.
